Erica carnea has many advantages during winter time: With its showy buds it promises already a colorful winter. It flowers during a period of time in which only few species show color. On top of that it is an excellent ground cover!
Since Erica carnea is a relatively slow grower during cultivation, its size is rather small in comparison to other heathers at the time of selling them (especially red flowering varieties). Once planted they like to spread.
